Eppstein reports record trade tax revenue amid projected deficit

The city of Eppstein is experiencing a shift in its financial landscape, characterized by record-high trade tax revenues alongside declining income from various fees and fines. Treasurer Andrea Sehr reported that trade tax revenue is expected to reach approximately 5.6 million euros, significantly exceeding the initial 4.8 million euro forecast.

However, these gains are offset by lower-than-expected earnings from public service fees, including reduced income from daycare registrations, burials, and homeless shelter occupancy. Additionally, construction projects led to a 400,000 euro decrease in revenue from traffic fine enforcement. Despite the sale of a municipal building on Langenhainer Straße and strong business taxes, the city anticipates a year-end deficit of roughly 1.05 million euros due to rising public transport costs and unplanned maintenance projects.
