EPR highway concessions report 47% drop in fire outbreaks

EPR Sul de Minas and EPR Vias do Café reported a 47% reduction in fire outbreaks along their managed highways in southern Minas Gerais between January and July 2026, compared to the same period in 2025. The number of incidents dropped from 257 to 137.

Specifically, EPR Vias do Café saw a 54% decrease, while EPR Sul de Minas recorded a 38% reduction. The companies attributed these results to a combination of real-time climate monitoring, heat detection technology, and the use of systems such as CT-Mergefire and the Climate Monitoring and Alert System (SMAC).

In addition to technological tools, the strategy includes permanent maintenance of highway rights-of-way and awareness campaigns for local communities and drivers to mitigate risks during the dry season.
