Epsilon launches as a new European social media platform

Epsilon, a new European-based social media platform, officially launched on Tuesday, September 29. Developed by Stéphane Dubreuil and Thomas Rocafull, the platform aims to provide a space for calm democratic debate, specifically targeting creators, journalists, and media outlets to build its community.

Built upon Mastodon and the Fediverse, Epsilon utilizes a decentralized architecture. The platform features a modified interface designed to mirror the usability of X (formerly Twitter) while avoiding its controversial moderation issues. To manage content, the service employs a hybrid moderation system combining human intervention with artificial intelligence, including tools from Mistral to automatically filter illegal or hateful content.

The launch seeks to address the dominance of American and Chinese platforms in the European market. According to the founders, the goal is to offer users more control over algorithms and content diffusion, moving away from the “economy of violence” and attention-grabbing tactics prevalent on existing networks.
