Epsilon Perseids meteor shower peaks September 9-10

The epsilon perseids meteor shower is expected to reach its peak during the night of September 9 to September 10, 2026. While less intense than the August Perseids, this shower offers favorable viewing conditions due to the proximity of a new moon on September 11, which will result in minimal moonlight interference.

According to the American Meteor Society and the International Meteor Organization, observers in the Northern Hemisphere can expect approximately one meteor per hour under ideal conditions. The peak activity is anticipated around 21:00 Bulgarian time, though optimal viewing is recommended after midnight when the Perseus constellation rises higher in the sky.

Astronomers note that the meteors enter Earth's atmosphere at speeds of approximately 64 km/s, often leaving brief, bright light trails. No telescopes or binoculars are required for observation; instead, finding a location with minimal light pollution and a wide view of the sky is recommended.
