Epstein scandal resurfaces in US political campaigns
The controversy surrounding Donald Trump’s past connections to Jeffrey Epstein has become a significant focal point in several US political campaigns. Democratic groups are heavily investing in advertising to highlight these links, with AdImpact data indicating that Democrats have spent approximately $53 million on ads mentioning Epstein in competitive races, compared to just $3 million from Republicans.
In Colorado, tensions have escalated between the family of the late Virginia Giuffre and Republican Representative Jeff Crank. Giuffre’s brother, Sky Roberts, has accused Crank of attempting to cover up Epstein’s crimes to protect Donald Trump by resisting the release of investigative files. A pro-Trump political action committee has countered these claims, asserting that Crank eventually voted for the release of the documents.
Other Republican candidates are also facing scrutiny. In Iowa, Senate candidate Ashley Hinson has released advertisements to distance her family from Epstein-linked donors. In Ohio, Democrats have spent millions targeting Senator Jon Husted regarding contributions from individuals associated with Epstein, such as billionaire Les Wexner. Additionally, Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas has faced criticism for his previous opposition to releasing the Epstein files, which he characterized as a “political stunt.”
Protests related to the Epstein case have also disrupted campaign events for Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance in states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina.
