Equatorial Guinea Vice President denies coup attempt reports

Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, the Vice President of Equatorial Guinea, has categorically denied reports of a foiled coup attempt in the country. The denial follows an article published by the French weekly Jeune Afrique, which claimed that Malabo authorities thwarted a plot involving Russian intelligence and Africa Corps members.

In an official statement, the Vice President dismissed the report as “cheap press” and asserted that no intelligence services from Russia, the United States, China, or any other nation had issued alerts regarding such a conspiracy. He also denied reports that a container of weapons had been seized at the port of Bata in connection with an operation against the government, stating that Equatorial Guinea remains calm and its institutions are functioning normally.

The opposition group, Coalition of Opposition for the Restoration of a Democratic State (Cored), has also rejected any involvement, claiming the allegations are fabrications by the regime intended to discredit them.
