Equestrian Federation of India suspended by FEI

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) has announced the suspension of the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), effective December 1. The decision follows a prolonged governance crisis and leadership irregularities within the national body.

Under the suspension, Indian riders, officials, and trainers are barred from competing in international events, whether under the Indian flag or the FEI flag. Additionally, India is prohibited from hosting FEI-sanctioned competitions, and the EFI cannot send representatives to FEI meetings.

The crisis stems from the expiration of the EFI Executive Committee’s tenure in September 2023. Although the Delhi High Court dissolved the committee in February 2026 and directed the Indian Olympic Association to appoint an ad-hoc committee to oversee fresh elections, new elections have not yet been conducted.

The FEI stated that the situation will be reviewed once elections for the Executive Committee are held and the results are evaluated. Fresh elections are currently expected to take place by January 31, 2027.
