Equifax $2.2 Million Settlement Limits Claims to 37,000 Letter Recipients
Equifax Information Services LLC agreed to a $2.2 million settlement to resolve a class‑action lawsuit alleging the bureau reported some collection accounts twice, harming consumers' credit scores. The case, Bradberry v. Equifax Information Services, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Only the roughly 37,000 consumers who received a “Duplicate Reporting Letter” from Equifax in August‑September 2022 are eligible to file a claim. Claimants must use the Notice ID and PIN printed on the letter, and must submit a claim by September 1 2026. Eligible claimants may receive up to $600, with the exact amount depending on the number of valid claims and administrative costs. A final approval hearing is scheduled for October 6 2026, after which payments will be released.
The settlement does not constitute an admission of liability. It follows Equifax’s earlier $650 million settlement over its 2017 data breach.
