Equinix and CGEMC partner to fund Georgia grid infrastructure

Equinix, Inc. and the Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (CGEMC) have entered a 20-year partnership to fund grid infrastructure and power capacity for a project in Hampton, Georgia.

Under a “take-or-pay” style contract, Equinix will cover 100% of CGEMC’s costs related to serving the contracted demand of the Hampton facility. This includes funding for new transmission and power capacity, grid upgrades, and unforeseen or shifting costs. The agreement is designed to ensure that local ratepayers do not bear the financial burden of the infrastructure improvements required to support the project's growth.

Equinix will provide upfront payments for initial grid upgrade costs, which include a new high-voltage substation, two new high-voltage transmission lines, and early site assessments, modeling, and engineering work. The partnership aims to improve regional grid reliability and affordability while supporting economic growth and innovation.
