Equinix invests US$28M to expand Bogotá data center

Equinix has announced an additional US$28 million investment to expand its International Business Exchange (IBX) BG2 data center in Bogotá, Colombia. This second phase will add 550 new cabinets to the facility, effectively doubling its total capacity.

The expansion is designed to meet the rising demand for cloud services, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. This follows an initial investment of US$45 million made by the company in 2022. The growth comes as the Colombian data center sector is projected to achieve a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) exceeding 21% through 2031.

By increasing capacity, the BG2 site strengthens Bogotá’s role as a strategic interconnection hub for the Andean region. The facility leverages connectivity from 11 submarine cables arriving on Colombian coasts, providing low-latency links to global nodes such as Miami. The infrastructure is intended to support interconnected operations across Colombia, Peru, Chile, and neighboring markets.
