Equinor discovers oil and gas at Grimsnes prospect in North Sea

Equinor, Petoro, and TotalEnergies have discovered oil and gas at the Grimsnes prospect in the North Sea. The discovery was made via the 30/8-7 S well, drilled by the Deepsea Bergen semisubmersible in production license PL 190 near the Oseberg field.

Preliminary estimates suggest the discovery contains between 19 and 50 million barrels of oil equivalent (3 to 8 million standard cubic meters). The well identified a 54-meter combined oil and gas column within the Middle Jurassic Tarbert Formation, consisting of a 39-meter gas column and a 15-meter oil column.

The joint venture intends to study options to tie the new discovery into existing infrastructure in the Oseberg area to accelerate development and maintain cost competitiveness. Equinor aims to significantly reduce both the time and cost required to move from discovery to production by utilizing existing subsea facilities.
