Equinox appoints Brendan Whitworth as CEO

Equinox has named Brendan Whitworth, the former CEO of Anheuser-Busch, as its new chief executive officer. Whitworth will join the board of the luxury fitness operator, while longtime leader Harvey Spevak will transition to the role of chairman.

The leadership change coincides with a major refinancing move that provides Equinox with more than $1 billion to fund growth initiatives. These plans include opening approximately 50 new clubs, upgrading existing locations, and expanding into high-potential markets. The company currently operates 118 clubs across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Whitworth is set to depart Anheuser-Busch at the end of November. During the transition, the North American leadership team at the St. Louis-based brewer will report directly to AB InBev CEO Michael Doukeris until a successor is named.
