ER-VAK President proposes naming Azerbaijani public space after Mürsel Bakü Paşa

Erdal Güzel, President of the Erzurum Development Foundation (ER-VAK), has proposed that a street, square, or park in Azerbaijan be named after Mürsel Bakü Paşa.

Mürsel Bakü Paşa was an Erzurum-born commander who served as the 5th Caucasian Division Commander within the Caucasian Islamic Army. He played a critical role in the liberation of Baku from Armenian and Bolshevik control on September 15, 1918.

Güzel stated that the proposal aims to honor the historical brotherhood between Turkey and Azerbaijan and to pass this shared memory to younger generations. He noted that while historical figures are often commemorated in Baku and other Azerbaijani cities, Mürsel Bakü Paşa’s contributions are not sufficiently recognized in Erzurum or widely known in the context of Azerbaijan’s independence struggle.
