Eramet and Posco Argentina announce $558M lithium investments in Salta
French miner Eramet confirmed a US$350 million investment to expand its lithium plant at the Centenario Ratones project in Salta province. The funding will enlarge technical and logistical capacity to boost battery‑grade lithium carbonate output and is expected to generate direct and indirect jobs while engaging local suppliers.
Posco Argentina’s “Sal de Oro II” project, located in the Salar del Hombre Muerto on the Salta‑Catamarca border, was approved for inclusion in the RIGI incentive regime. The venture plans a US$208 million investment to produce about 23,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate per year for export, with more than 40% of the capital to be spent in the first two years and a commitment that over 20% of purchases will go to Argentine suppliers. Both projects aim to strengthen Argentina’s role in the global electric‑vehicle supply chain.
