Eras Society Italy launches nutrition guide for surgical patients
A new book titled ‘Le ricette per la guarigione ed il benessere’ (Recipes for Healing and Well-being) has been introduced to assist patients through the surgical process. Developed by Academia Barilla in collaboration with Eras Society Italy, the volume features 28 recipes designed to support patients from pre-operative preparation through to post-operative recovery.
The project aligns with the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (Eras) protocol, which challenges the traditional practice of prolonged fasting. Scientific evidence within the Eras protocol suggests that resuming food intake within 24 hours of surgery can facilitate faster recovery, boost energy levels, and reduce the risk of complications. The protocol emphasizes that the body requires high protein intake during healing to prevent muscle breakdown.
The book was presented at the Eras Italia Pois national congress in Verona. It will be made available at hospitals adhering to the Eras protocol and through the Eras Society website.
