Erasmo Carlos's widow cleared of criminal complaint by Public Ministry

The Public Ministry has rejected a criminal complaint filed by the children of Brazilian singer Erasmo Carlos against his widow, Fernanda Esteves. The heirs, Leonardo and Gil Esteves, had requested an investigation into financial movements totaling R$ 345,000, including a R$ 300,000 transfer made on the day of the singer's death in November 2022.

Upon review, the Public Ministry determined there were insufficient elements to justify a criminal investigation. The agency also noted a “misogynistic bias” in how the suspicions against Fernanda Esteves were presented. While the criminal accusation has been blocked, civil disputes regarding the estate—including the ownership of an apartment in Rio de Janeiro and other personal assets—continue in court.

Separately, reports indicate that singer Roberto Carlos had twice offered financial assistance to Fernanda Esteves during her period of difficulty following Erasmo's death, but she declined both offers. This closeness between Roberto Carlos and the widow reportedly contributed to a strained relationship between the singer and Erasmo's eldest son, Leonardo Esteves.
