Erasmus+ program boosts employment and international mobility
The Erasmus+ program continues to influence curricula, language skills, and career trajectories for students. Originally launched in 1987, the initiative has evolved from a university-focused exchange into a broader framework established in 2014 that encompasses higher education, school education, vocational training, adult education, youth, and sports.
In the Valencian Community, the impact is reflected in recent statistics. Over the last decade, regional universities have hosted more than 61,000 international students, while nearly 40,000 local students have participated in exchanges. For the 2024-2025 academic year, 4,553 students from Valencian universities participated in the program, compared to 3,554 in 2015-2016. Conversely, incoming international students reached a record 7,326, up from 5,430 a decade ago.
The program's scope has also expanded geographically. Approximately 20% of the Erasmus+ international mobility budget now finances stays outside of Europe, including destinations in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
