ERC leader Junqueras demands more national ambition from PSC

Oriol Junqueras, president of Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), has called for more “national ambition” from the PSC to maintain ERC's parliamentary support for the Catalan government. Speaking to the ERC parliamentary group, Junqueras stated that a discourse focused solely on “pure management” is insufficient for the country's needs.

Junqueras indicated that ERC will support future budgets provided they are “useful” for Catalonia, specifically highlighting the need to address the current financing model, which he described as having been “expired for fourteen years.” The party's roadmap includes strengthening Catalan rights, financing, mobility, housing, education, and the environment.

This political dynamic follows a pattern of cooperation between ERC and the PSC at various levels of government. Since the 2023 municipal elections, the two parties have formed shared governments in numerous municipalities and provincial councils, including Tarragona and Lleida, establishing the PSC as a structural interlocutor for ERC's institutional policy.
