ERC reports Portuguese TV operators met 2025 accessibility targets

The Portuguese media regulator, Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC), reported that television operators met their 2025 accessibility obligations for audiences with special needs. These obligations include subtitling, sign language interpretation, and audio description.

While operators generally met their proposed targets, the ERC noted that the availability of accessible content did not increase compared to 2024, and no particularly significant new measures were recorded. Consequently, the regulator is recommending more ambition from operators, specifically through the definition of clearer quantitative goals and the expansion of accessible content within their catalogs.

The assessment covered various services, including RTP1, RTP2, SIC, and TVI. RTP1 and RTP2 exceeded the minimum required hours for subtitling, while SIC and TVI also significantly exceeded their established minimums.
