ERC rules on TVI broadcasting ethics violation

The Portuguese Media Regulatory Authority (ERC) has deliberated on a potential violation of broadcasting ethics by the television station TVI. The issue stems from an April morning program analysis regarding an alleged collective assault of a 16-year-old girl in Loures.

The controversy centers on whether the comments made during the program violated Article 27 of the Television Law, which prohibits broadcasts that could seriously harm the personality formation, image, or privacy of children and adolescents. While there is debate regarding the specific legal grounds for administrative fines under Article 34, the ERC maintains that the comments in question violated standards essential to broadcasting ethics by affecting the victim's image.
