ERC Senate spokesperson Sara Bailac announces she will not seek reelection
Sara Bailac, the spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in the Spanish Senate, has announced she will not seek reelection in the upcoming general elections. Bailac, who has represented the Lleida constituency for over seven years across two legislatures, stated that she views her time in the upper house as a “temporary” stage and believes it is time to “pass the torch” to new profiles.
Bailac's departure follows recent announcements from deputies Jordi Salvador and Pilar Vallugera, who also confirmed they will not return to the front lines of the Spanish Congress. These exits signal a significant transformation within ERC's parliamentary candidacies ahead of the elections scheduled for late November.
The wave of departures has drawn attention to internal party dynamics, specifically regarding the influence of Gabriel Rufián. While some departing members have reportedly had strained relations with the Congress spokesperson, ERC leader Oriol Junqueras has maintained his support for Rufián during this period of transition.
