Faiz Sucuoğlu inspects Ercan Airport and regional ports

Faiz Sucuoğlu, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation, has conducted field inspections at Ercan Airport and several ports to address infrastructure and operational issues.

During his visit to Ercan Airport, discussions focused on technical infrastructure, traffic and parking congestion, meteorology systems, and the implementation of an online passport system. However, Kürşad Hüdaverdioğlu, President of the Air Traffic Controllers Union, criticized the inspection for overlooking critical safety concerns. Hüdaverdioğlu noted that the current Air Traffic Control Tower cannot directly view the 29L runway head following recent runway construction and stated that the union’s requests for a camera system to mitigate this visibility issue remain unaddressed.

In a separate effort to improve maritime infrastructure, Sucuoğlu initiated repairs at the Gazimağusa and Kyrenia ports. Following reports of poor lighting and lack of maintenance in passenger areas, lighting repairs were recently completed at the Gazimağusa Port to improve operational security and passenger comfort.
