Ercan Airport runway maintenance prioritized for flight safety

The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation has issued a statement regarding the 11R/29L runway at Ercan Airport following concerns over flight safety. The Ministry clarified that the runway is inspected at least four times daily by both the airport operator and the Civil Aviation Department, in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 standards and national legislation.

Recent flight delays occurring last Friday were attributed to urgent maintenance and repairs conducted after damage was identified during routine inspections. The Ministry emphasized that these delays were a result of prioritizing flight safety over operational convenience.

Further maintenance and repair work is scheduled to take place between 00:30 and 02:30 on the night between Sunday and Monday. The Ministry stated that safety and security in aviation are never left to chance or negligence, and that human life will always take precedence over commercial or operational concerns.
