Erciyes hosts Turkey's first high-altitude beach handball tournament

A beach handball tournament was held at the Erciyes Ski Center in Turkey, marking the first time the sport has been played at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the country. The event took place at the Tekir Kapı area on a specially constructed sand court.

Organized by the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality in collaboration with the Turkish Handball Federation and Erciyes A.Ş., the competition featured 80 athletes. The tournament aims to promote Erciyes as a year-round sports destination, moving beyond its traditional role as a winter ski resort. Facilities such as high-altitude training centers, tennis courts, and football fields are part of the region's effort to expand its sports tourism capabilities.

Prof. Dr. Serdar Eler, General Coordinator of the Turkish Handball Federation, noted the ambitious nature of the event, highlighting the difficulty of organizing beach handball at such high altitudes.
