Ercros receives €20 million loan from ICF to decarbonise Tarragona complex

Ercros will invest €56.7 million to decarbonise its Complex Industrial de Tarragona (CIT). The project is funded by a €20 million EcoVerda loan from the Institut Català de Finances (ICF), covering about 35% of the total cost, and a €14 million grant from the PERTE industrial decarbonisation programme. The financing will enable energy‑efficiency upgrades at the Vila‑seca I and Vila‑seca II plants, targeting a 56% reduction in CO₂ emissions. Planned actions include installing an electric boiler at Vila‑seca I, adding a biomass‑fired steam generator and a residual‑heat recovery system at Vila‑seca II, and optimizing the use of hydrogen produced in chlorine‑soda manufacturing. ICF delegate councilor Vanessa Servera said the loan “impulsa una industria más competitiva y sostenible,” while Ercros finance director Luis Rebelo da Silva said the funding accelerates a strategic project. The CIT employs 324 workers, posts €214.8 million in annual revenue and exports roughly 43% of its output.
