Turkey and Northern Cyprus leaders address politics and rights
In Turkey, the 28th Term 5th Legislative Year of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey commenced on October 1. During the opening session, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech that included messages regarding a new constitution. The session was marked by political tension when members of the YENI Party left the hall during Erdoğan’s address.
Separately, Hulusi Akar, Chairman of the TBMM National Defense Commission, spoke at the Birlik Foundation’s inaugural session. Akar emphasized Turkey’s growing strategic influence and the importance of the domestic defense industry, stating that Turkey has become a country that “plays the game” in the international arena. He also addressed social unity and the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
In Northern Cyprus, President Tufan Erhürman addressed the rights of children and youth. He highlighted the need to protect the rights of children from mixed marriages, Maronite children, and those attending Greek Cypriot schools in Karpaz. Erhürman emphasized that children’s rights should not be tied to their parents' political views or ethnic origins, noting that he is working to resolve issues such as visa complications affecting education and scholarships.
