Turkey seeks concrete steps for F-35 return following positive stance from Trump

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed a positive willingness regarding Turkey's potential return to the F-35 fighter jet program. Following discussions at the NATO summit, Erdoğan noted that he expects this positive stance to be translated into concrete steps and remains in contact with U.S. officials to achieve a result.

Erdoğan emphasized that while the F-35 issue is a priority, Turkey remains committed to developing its own domestic defense industry. This includes the production of the KAAN fighter jet and advanced air defense systems. Additionally, the President confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the United Kingdom regarding the acquisition of Eurofighter jets.

Turkey was previously removed from the F-35 program in 2019 due to its acquisition of the Russian S-400 missile system, a move that led to subsequent U.S. sanctions.
