Zelenskyy and Erdoğan discuss Black Sea security and UAV agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met in the United States during the 81st UN General Assembly to discuss regional security and bilateral cooperation. Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Turkey's support of Ukraine's sovereignty and discussed potential cooperation regarding a free trade zone and a possible UAV agreement.

A central focus of the meeting was the security of the Black Sea. President Erdoğan characterized attacks on commercial vessels by both Russia and Ukraine as inexplicable and called for responsible action from both sides to protect maritime navigation. Turkey has previously offered assistance to both nations to mitigate these attacks, which have impacted Turkish shipping and citizens.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is working with Turkey, Egypt, and India to ensure safe food and product transport through the Black Sea. He stated that Ukraine is prepared for a maritime truce based on these international proposals and is currently awaiting a response from Russia regarding a safe passage process.
