Erdoğan warns of global food waste at World Food Forum
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the World Food Forum via video message, highlighting the stark contrast between global food waste and widespread hunger. He noted that approximately 1.5 billion tons of food are lost or wasted annually, with roughly 60 percent of this waste occurring at the consumer level in households.
Erdoğan emphasized that access to secure food is not merely an economic issue but a fundamental element of national security for Turkey. He stressed the importance of addressing climate change, environmental protection, and food security to ensure a livable world for future generations.
Regarding domestic efforts, Erdoğan reported that the ‘Protect Your Food, Protect Your Table’ initiative has seen progress. Specifically, the campaign to prevent bread waste has successfully reduced bread waste by 18 percent.
