Erfurt and Jena police investigate anti-constitutional slogans and vandalism

Police in Thuringia are investigating multiple incidents involving anti-constitutional and racist slogans. In Erfurt, a group of men shouted anti-constitutional and xenophobic slogans on a tram (line N3) during the early hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026. One individual reportedly performed a Nazi salute. Officers intercepted the tram at the Färberwaidweg stop and identified a 23-year-old suspect with a known police record, who tested positive for alcohol at over 1.2 per mille. The identities of the other participants remain unknown.

In a separate incident in Jena, unidentified perpetrators defaced vehicles, building entrances, and street lamps with swastikas and racist insults over the weekend. Authorities are investigating these acts as politically motivated property damage and the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.
