Ergani jewelers to ban open gold sales from September 2026

The Ergani Jewelers and Goldsmiths Association in Diyarbakır has announced a new regulation to combat the rise of counterfeit and low-karat gold in the market. Starting September 1, 2026, member jewelers will no longer sell open gold.

Under the new policy, retailers will only sell gold products produced by the Turkish State Mint that are provided in sealed, secure packaging. Hüseyin Haksever, President of the Association, stated that the primary goal is to ensure secure transactions for citizens and to strengthen trust within the profession.

Regarding existing assets, Haksever clarified that the decision does not affect gold previously purchased. Jewelers will continue to buy open gold from citizens, ensuring that current holdings do not lose value. The regulation specifically targets new sales occurring from the implementation date onward.
