ergoCub humanoid robot developed to assist human workers

The Italian Institute of Technology has developed ergoCub, a humanoid robot designed to work alongside human laborers rather than replacing them. Unlike traditional industrial robots that follow fixed sequences and stop when obstructed, ergoCub is built to assist with physically demanding tasks to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Equipped with cameras, force sensors, and 3D vision systems, the robot utilizes artificial intelligence to interpret human intentions and movements in real time. This allows the machine to adapt its behavior and anticipate gestures, sharing the physical load of tasks such as moving heavy components or tools without becoming an obstacle to the worker.
