Ergys Agasi accused of leading criminal group to manipulate public tenders

SPAK is investigating Ergys Agasi, a former Ministry of Environment official and businessman, for allegedly leading a structured criminal group. The group is accused of using corruption and kidnapping to manipulate public tenders related to the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI).

The investigation has implicated high-ranking officials. Vlora Hyseni, the director of the State Intelligence Service (SHISH), has been placed under house arrest and suspended from duty on suspicion of assisting Agasi while he was a fugitive and potentially sharing secret information. Additionally, former State Police Director Ilir Proda is being questioned regarding the circumstances of Agasi’s escape and suspected protection.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj has alleged that Agasi acted as a coordinator between the government and organized crime groups, claiming his influence was bolstered by a political friendship with Prime Minister Edi Rama. Both Agasi and Rama have denied these allegations.

Separately, the Albanian Council of Ministers has approved new regulations regarding the distribution of electronic identity documents to clarify administrative procedures and competencies.
