Erias Lukwago hospitalized in critical condition amid legal proceedings

Former Kampala Lord Mayor and People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) President Erias Lukwago has been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital in critical condition. His hospitalization follows a period of detention at Luzira Prison, where his health reportedly deteriorated.

Lukwago is currently facing charges of misprision of treason, stemming from allegations that he failed to report a plot involving opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye. He has denied these charges. His legal team and political allies, including former deputy Doreen Nyanjura, have expressed concern regarding his access to specialized medical care. Lukwago has a history of chronic back and cervical spine problems, and associates claim that authorities have previously denied requests for him to seek specialized assessment abroad.

This marks the second time in less than two months that Lukwago has required hospitalization due to health concerns. While his condition is described as critical by supporters, specific details regarding the immediate medical emergency leading to Monday's transfer have not been independently confirmed.
