Eric Chelle Receives Strong Backing from Former Players and NFF Board

Former Super Eagles midfielder Paul Okoku praised Eric Chelle, saying the Franco‑Malian coach has shown clear tactical intent and has brought greater organisation and discipline to Nigeria’s senior national team. Okoku highlighted Chelle’s “intentional” approach and the clarity of roles it gives players, describing him as the right person to lead the Super Eagles forward.

NFF board member Nse Essien also expressed confidence in Chelle, sharing a photo from the President Federation Cup final and noting his capacity to lead. Essien’s endorsement follows the recent extension of Chelle’s contract, which now includes oversight of the Olympic Eagles (U‑23 team) and an improved salary package, with the National Sports Commission covering assistant coaches’ wages. Both endorsements come as Chelle prepares the team for upcoming continental competitions and World Cup qualifying matches.
