Eric Clapton launches U.S. tour with rare performance in Detroit

Eric Clapton launched a six-city U.S. tour on September 6 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The performance marked a significant moment for the 81-year-old guitarist, as he performed ‘Give Me Strength’ from his 1974 album ‘461 Ocean Boulevard’ for the first time in over 50 years, with his last documented performance of the track occurring in 1975.

The concert featured a mix of electric and acoustic sets. During the acoustic portion, Clapton included ‘Running on Faith’ and a rendition of the Blind Faith classic ‘Can’t Find My Way Home,’ with bassist Nathan East performing lead vocals. Jimmie Vaughan served as the opening act and special guest for the tour dates.

The tour is scheduled to continue through Cincinnati, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, and Kansas City, before concluding in Austin. This run precedes Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival scheduled for later this month.
