Eric Dane memoir details first ALS symptoms
Actor Eric Dane, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, will posthumously release a memoir titled ‘My Book Of Days: A Memoir of Moments’ on November 3, 2026. The book provides an intimate account of his life, including his struggles with addiction, his relationship with Rebecca Gayheart, and his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
In excerpts from the memoir, Dane describes the first physical sign of the disease, which occurred during a sushi dinner with his daughters. He noted that he suddenly struggled to use chopsticks with his right hand, experiencing tingling and numbness in his fingers. At the time, he dismissed the sensation as a ‘weird nerve thing’ potentially caused by excessive texting.
Following the initial episode, the symptoms returned more severely three weeks later, making it impossible for him to grip the chopsticks. This incident led to a nine-month search for medical answers before he received his ALS diagnosis. Dane passed away from the condition in February at the age of 53.
