Eric Dane reveals reasons for Grey's Anatomy departure in posthumous memoirs
Actor Eric Dane, known for his role as Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, has provided new insight into his 2012 departure from the medical drama through his posthumous memoirs, ‘My Book of Days’.
In the book, scheduled for publication on November 3, Dane explains that he felt he had fully explored every nuance of his character. He also noted that his salary had become too high for the production to sustain.
Beyond professional reasons, the memoirs touch upon personal struggles, including his battle with addiction and a relapse in 2008. Dane passed away at age 53 on February 19, 2026, following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
