Kimberly Guilfoyle sued by donor Eric Deters for defamation

Republican donor Eric Deters has filed a defamation lawsuit in Kentucky against former U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle and her legal team. The legal action follows allegations that Guilfoyle requested $100,000 from Deters to settle an American Express bill in exchange for political influence within the Trump administration.

Deters claims that Guilfoyle’s legal team issued false statements to the Wall Street Journal, suggesting he owed her money for travel and patriotic events. Deters denies these claims, characterizing her actions as “grifting on the highest level.”

The controversy stems from leaked messages suggesting Guilfoyle offered to use her connections to help Deters with personal legal and tax issues, including the extradition of a surgeon, Abubakar Atiq Durrani, from Pakistan. Guilfoyle, who resigned from her post earlier this week, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing, with her team disputing the authenticity of the messages and maintaining that the funds sought were for legitimate consulting and speaking fees.
