Eric Garcia reveals new tactical role under Hansi Flick at Barcelona

Following Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Al Ahly in the Joan Gamper Trophy, defender Eric Garcia revealed that manager Hansi Flick intends to utilize him primarily as a full-back during the upcoming season.

Garcia, who has previously played as a center-back and midfielder, noted that Flick has already discussed this tactical shift with him. During the trophy match, Garcia operated at right-back, allowing Jules Kounde to move into a right center-back role. Garcia expressed comfort with the change, stating, “It’s a position I’m happy in. I already told him I’d be happy wherever I played.”

Regarding squad depth, Garcia addressed the departure of center-forwards Lewandowski and Ferran. He suggested the club has sufficient options in attack, citing players such as Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rapha, Lamine, and Hamza as capable of covering the position. While he noted that any new signings would be welcome, he emphasized that transfer decisions remain the responsibility of the sporting director.
