Eric Stalner to release historical graphic novel ‘Le Fils de l’ogre’

Artist Eric Stalner is releasing a new graphic novel titled ‘Le Fils de l’ogre’ through the publisher Grand Angle. Set in the Cévennes region of France in 1743, the story is a dark, historical adventure inspired by classic tales.

The narrative follows a solitary knight, Guillaume-Paulin Valdéran de Langres, who rescues a baby from a river. The child, named Baptiste, becomes a central figure in a conflict involving a brutal, aristocratic ‘ogre’ who rules the region through fear and violence. The plot explores themes of survival and redemption amidst the historical tensions between Catholics and Protestants in 18th-century France.

Stalner, a veteran of the comic book industry with over forty years of experience, is noted for his detailed architectural and naturalistic reconstructions of the period, including period-accurate costumes and settings.
