Eric Swalwell case referred to Los Angeles prosecutors

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office sex crimes unit is currently reviewing a case involving former Representative Eric Swalwell to determine whether to bring criminal charges. The investigation follows a referral from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s victims’ unit on September 21.

Swalwell, a Democrat who resigned from Congress in April and withdrew from a California gubernatorial race, faces multiple allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. One specific accusation involves Lonna Drewes, who has accused Swalwell of drugging, choking, and sexually assaulting her.

In connection with these allegations, the FBI previously searched Swalwell’s Washington, D.C., home in August and seized electronic devices, including an iPhone and a MacBook Pro, during a search at a San Francisco airport.

Swalwell’s attorney, Sara Azari, has denied all allegations, stating that the referral to the District Attorney is a “standard procedural step” and not a finding of wrongdoing. She maintained that the former congressman is innocent and expects to be vindicated.
