Erick Pulgar addresses decision to stop playing for Chile

Flamengo midfielder Erick Pulgar has addressed the controversy surrounding his decision to stop playing for the Chilean national team. In an interview with ‘O Globo’, Pulgar clarified that his refusal to represent Chile is not due to an inability to handle pressure, a claim he says was taken out of context.

Pulgar dismissed criticisms from former player Esteban Paredes, noting that Paredes had never spoken to him directly about the matter. The midfielder highlighted his extensive experience playing in high-stakes matches, including Copa Libertadores finals and games in front of large crowds, to argue that he is well-equipped for professional pressure.

He explained that his decision is primarily focused on his club career with Flamengo and that his previous conversations with Chilean federation president Pablo Milad were misinterpreted. Pulgar emphasized the distinction between sporting pressure and personal life pressures, urging people to listen to his direct statements rather than interpretations.
