Erick Thohir announces Rp3 billion bonus for Asian Games 2026 gold medalists

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir has motivated Indonesian athletes competing in the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi, Japan, by highlighting a significant financial incentive. He stated that under the commitment of President Prabowo Subianto, the government has ensured a bonus of Rp3 billion for every athlete who wins a gold medal.

Beyond immediate bonuses, Thohir emphasized the government's focus on strengthening national training programs (pelatnas) across short, medium, and long-term durations to prepare for major international events like the SEA Games and the Olympics. Additionally, the government is working on a retirement fund or pension scheme for gold medalists, which is expected to be implemented within the next one to two years.
