Erick Thohir outlines Indonesia's 2026 sports targets and events

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir has outlined several key initiatives for the nation's sports sector heading into 2026. As part of the Indonesia Race 2026 series, the Jakarta International 10K is scheduled to take place at the Gelora Bung Karno complex on September 13, 2026. This event, a collaboration between the Ministry and Nestlé Milo, expects to attract up to 25,000 participants across categories including a 10K Open for international runners, a 10K Closed, a 5K, and a 2.5K Family Run.

In terms of international competition, Thohir announced that Indonesia is targeting at least four gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games. To support this goal and ensure long-term athletic development, the Ministry is focusing on youth empowerment, sports culture, and performance enhancement. Key programs include the development of the Cibubur Sport Science center, national sports academies, athlete scholarships, and a long-term training system for 20 priority Olympic sports and one world-stage sport.
