Ericsson and ÉTS partner to advance quantum computing in Quebec

Ericsson Canada and École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) have launched a research collaboration to advance quantum computing applications for telecommunications. Supported by the Mitacs Accelerate program, the project focuses on developing scalable variational quantum algorithms to improve the efficiency and reliability of telecom network operations.

The initiative, titled “Toward Scalable Variational Quantum Algorithms: A Dissipative Approach to Mitigation and Optimization,” involves Professor Jacob Biamonte and his research team at ÉTS working alongside researchers from the Ericsson Quantum Program. The collaboration aims to address current hardware limitations by using both quantum hardware and simulations to mitigate errors and enhance optimization in quantum algorithms.

This partnership coincides with the expansion of Ericsson Canada’s Montreal Quantum Research Hub. The project also seeks to train students and researchers in cutting-edge quantum technology to support Canada’s position in the global quantum computing sector.
