Erie, Pennsylvania mass shooting leaves eight dead

Authorities have identified 45-year-old Matthew Stone Sr. as the gunman in a mass shooting that occurred on October 9 in Erie, Pennsylvania. The attack, which took place at a family residence, resulted in eight deaths before the perpetrator died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the Erie County coroner and local police, seven of the victims were relatives of Stone. The deceased include his wife, Michelle Stone, 44; his adult children, Matthew Stone Jr., 21, and Jonathan Stone, 19; and his 24-year-old pregnant daughter, Angelina Stone. Angelina’s unborn son was also killed. Additionally, two young grandchildren, aged 1 and 5, were among the victims. The eighth victim, Twila Tanner, 51, was identified as a friend of the pregnant woman.

Investigators noted that two women, Lora Roberts, 37, and Twila Tanner, were shot outside the home as they attempted to seek help. Video and audio evidence captured muffled gunfire inside the house just before the women arrived and began pounding on the door.

While a definitive motive has not been established, authorities are investigating mental health as a possible factor. Family members described Stone as the family patriarch who had previously shown no outward signs of distress or instability.
