Erik Alvarado proposes remote work for Honduran public institutions
Erik Alvarado, president of the National Congress Hydrocarbons Commission, has proposed implementing remote work within public institutions in Honduras to reduce fuel consumption amid rising international oil prices.
Alvarado stated that remote work must be accompanied by strict supervision mechanisms to ensure employees fulfill their responsibilities. He also suggested reviewing work schedules to alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours, though he noted this requires technical feasibility studies.
The legislator ruled out implementing vehicle restrictions, such as the “no circula” system, arguing that many Honduran families rely on a single vehicle for work and education. Instead, he emphasized the need to improve public transportation security and conditions in major cities like Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
Technical teams at the Secretariat of Energy are currently developing proposals to mitigate the economic impact of fuel price increases, with results expected in the coming weeks.
