Erik Andersen makes first CFL start in Roughriders victory

Erik Andersen made his first CFL start for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, stepping into a starting role at left guard after Daniel Johnson was sidelined by illness. Andersen, a second-round pick in the 2025 CFL Canadian Draft, was originally slated to be the team’s sixth offensive lineman before being called up just hours before the game against the Ottawa REDBLACKS.

Andersen’s performance contributed to a 42-20 victory for the Roughriders. The offensive line helped the team amass 535 net yards, marking the highest regulation-time total for the franchise in 16 years. The team also recorded 139 rushing yards, including three rushing touchdowns by quarterback Tommy Stevens.

Roughriders head coach Corey Mace praised Andersen’s readiness and progression since training camp, noting his ability to handle the sudden transition to a starting role.
