Erik Lamela becomes Monterrey kitman while pursuing coaching licence

Former Tottenham winger Erik Lamela, who retired at 34 after recurring hip problems, has joined Mexican club C.F. Monterrey's technical staff. Because he does not yet hold the UEFA Pro Licence required by Liga MX statutes, the club registered him officially as a kitman, allowing him to work as an assistant coach while completing his coaching badges.

Lamela’s post‑retirement role follows a distinguished playing career that included spells at Sevilla, Tottenham and the Argentina national team, a Europa League title with Sevilla and the 2021 FIFA Puskás Award for a spectacular goal. The administrative workaround lets him stay involved in daily training while he works toward the licence that will enable a full coaching appointment in Mexico.
